Food standards
are implemented to assist with the protection
of the public's health and consumer interests
concerning food issues.
There are
Governing bodies and assemblies which oversee
food standard issues with the principle aim of
protecting the health of consumers.
In the UK,
there is the Food
Standards Agency which was introduced by an
Act of Parliament in 2000 and is an independent
Government department.
There is
a global food standards body called Codex
Alimentarius Commission, which has just recently
implemented a landmark agreement to it's 169 member
countires regarding the analysis and management
of the risks derived from biotechnology.
